In a historic turn of events at the ongoing Bangladesh versus Sri Lanka 1st Test in Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Kamindu Mendis, the rising batting sensation from Sri Lanka, has marked his name in the books of cricketing history.

The 25-year-old left-handed batter accomplished a rare feat, becoming the first player ever to score twin centuries at No.7 or below in a Test match, during just his second Test appearance and the first in nearly 20 months.

Mendis showcased his exceptional batting skills on Day 3 of the test, reaching the milestone while nearing 4,000 First-Class runs. 

His extraordinary achievement adds to the excitement of the match, where he notched up his maiden Test century in the first innings and followed it up with another remarkable hundred in the second innings, batting at positions 7 and 8 respectively.

Adding to the excitement, Sri Lankan captain Dhananjaya de Silva also made significant contributions with centuries in both innings, further highlighting the team's batting dominance.

This marks only the third occurrence in Test cricket history where two batters have achieved twin centuries in the same match. Prior instances include Azhar Ali and Misbah-ul-Haq against Australia in 2014, and Ian Chappell and Greg Chappell against New Zealand in 1974.

The significance of Mendis's achievement is further highlighted by the fact that he completed his first two centuries in just three innings, making him the fastest Sri Lankan to accomplish this milestone in Test cricket history. 

Surpassing the likes of Sanjeeva Ranatunga (Five innings) and Thilan Samaraweera (Six innings), Mendis achieved this feat with remarkable speed and skill.
