West Indies T20 giant Andre Russell punched out yet another match-winning batting masterclass for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise, this time flogging around the SRH bowlers in their opening match of the IPL 2024 season.

Batting at number eight and arriving at the crease with just six overs remaining in the innings, the cricketer still found time to smear 64 unbeaten runs from 25 balls to blaze his team past the 200-run mark against a quality SRH attack.

Moreover, Russell also made his presence felt with the ball as his all-round show laid out the foundation of a narrow KKR win in a high-scoring thriller.

While speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Andre Russell was asked if he ever keeps track of his burgeoning strike-rate while batting. The cricketer had a rather amusing response to the query, as he stated:

“Not really. Sometimes stuff pops up on my Instagram and I realise how well I've been striking the ball, which is just a cool reminder to know that you're doing well. So I'm happy with the way I'm batting and grateful for the win tonight.”

Andre Russell also reflected his batting mindset while countering quality bowling attacks in the slog overs.

He claimed that bowlers have been making “plans” against him off late, and he sometimes has to dig his way around for runs in the backend of the innings. The 36-year-old said:

“I just try to react to whatever comes my way. I know, based on the last year or two, bowlers have been exceptionally good at bowling to me, and they plan very carefully when they bowl to me. So I've been digging runs out in the back end, and I'm still figuring out how to score because they're going to have their plans. I realize everyone is coming to me with a plan, so I have to be ready.”

He also expressed his admiration for the franchise, and described his latest match-winning spectacle as his way of thanking the team management for their continual support.

“They have shown faith and confidence in me over the years. So what I did tonight is just to say keep supporting and I'm happy to contribute every time I put this jersey on," he concluded.

Andre Russell along with the rest of his KKR teammates will now travel to Bengaluru for their subsequent IPL 2024 chapter against RCB. Their much-awaited stalemate will be staged at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on March 29.
