In a significant development, fast bowler Arundhati Reddy has been declared 'perfectly fine' after facing an injury scare during a warm-up match against England. The incident took place at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru on Thursday. This update will bring immense happiness to the Indian camp ahead of the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup.
Arundhati Reddy's Injury Update
Reddy faced the injury when she was bowling her fifth over and had just dismissed opener Amy Jones. A powerful straight drive from England captain Heather Knight struck her on the left knee. The impact was sudden, and Reddy was unable to get back on her feet immediately. Team physios and reserve players rushed to her aid, and she had to be helped off the field in a wheelchair.
However, in what has come as a massive boost to the team’s World Cup preparations, a source from the BCCI confirmed to Times of India (TOI) that scans revealed no significant injury.
“Arundhati is perfectly fine. The scans (after her injury) revealed nothing,” the BCCI source told TOI.
Why Reddy's Fitness Is A Sigh Of Relief For India?
It is worth noting that Arundhati Reddy is in her early career, having played just 11 ODIs and scalped 15 wickets at an average of 32.66 and a strike rate of 5.36. In the shortest format of the game, the ace pacer has played 38 T20Is and has taken 34 wickets.
Her pace and ability to generate bounce make her a crucial asset for the team, and with the ODI World Cup approaching, her presence in the squad could offer India the much-needed depth in their pace department.
It is also important to note that, according to reports now cleared of injury concerns, Arundhati Reddy is expected to participate in India's first World Cup match against Sri Lanka on September 30.
