Day 4 of the Lord’s Test between India and England had drama, excitement, and all sorts of emotions involved in what’s shaping up to be a historic Test. After bowling out England for 192 runs, India appeared to be on top of the game until English pacers rammed into the top order in the final hour of the third session. By stumps, the host team had almost half the Indian side back in the pavilion as the high-voltage game hangs in the balance.

Pumped Up India Scalps 4 Wickets In 1st Session

Team India walked out on Day 4 with the same intensity as they had when they left Day 3. Mohammed Siraj drew first blood to dismiss Ben Duckett with a roaring send-off. He struck again to get Ollie Pope before Nitish Reddy trapped Zak Crawley to hole out to Jaiswal at gully. Harry Brook, who showed intent with a couple of reverse sweeps and scoops, had an absolute brain fade moment.

Trying to sweep a full, straight delivery from Akash Deep, Brook premeditated the shot a little too obviously. The ball was pitched up and angled into the stumps, and Deep seemed to sense Brook’s intentions. As the batter bent across for the sweep, the ball sneaked behind his legs and crashed into the middle stump. With that, England were 4 wickets down at 87 runs on the board at lunch on Day 4.

Sundar, Bumrah Wipe Out England On 192

Despite India’s strong start, England showed resistance with a 68-run partnership between Joe Root and Ben Stokes. While a few close LBW calls went against India, Washington Sundar cleaned up both the batters to send them back to the pavilion against the run of play. Both Stokes and Root made questionable shot selections, leading to their costly dismissal.

Sundar also cleaned up Jamie Smith, who has been in sublime form this series. Jasprit Bumrah did the rest to wipe out the tail as England succumbed to 192/10. Out of the 10 wickets, 7 English batters were bowled, with Sundar picking up a match-defining four-wicket-haul.

India Lose Top Order In Sudden Collapse To Set Up Thrilling Day 5

With 193 runs to chase, Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal played a bizarre shot against Jofra Archer to pick a leading edge to wicket-keeper Jamie Smith and walked back on duck. KL Rahul and Karun Nair stitched up a promising 36-run partnership for the second wicket, but the latter couldn’t survive a lethal spell from Brydon Carse.

Shubman Gill, the skipper, was also trapped LBW in front by Carse and burnt a review on his way back as it was a plumb dismissal. With India suddenly 3 wickets down at 53 runs, India chose to avert risk and sent nightwatchman Akash Deep to the crease.

England built up pressure on Deep with constant chirping and aggression. For the final over of Day 4, Ben Stokes played mind games, set the field multiple times to confuse Akash Deep, and eventually bowled him with a cracker to mark the conclusion of Day 4. At stumps, India had 58 runs on the board with the loss of 4 wickets and still require 135 runs to win this 3rd Test at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
