IND vs BAN | Why Nasum Ahmed's Delivery To Virat Kohli Was Not Given Wide?

The Indian team have secured their fourth win on the trot in the ongoing World Cup 2023. In the game against Bangladesh today, Virat Kohli completed his 48th ODI century. Bangladesh's Nasum Ahmed tried to forbid him from reaching his 78th international hundred by bowling a wide delivery, but it was considered a fair delivery.

Rohit Sharma's men were again up to the mark tonight, as they totally outplayed the Bangladesh team. Firstly, India's bowling was exceptional, and they restricted Bangladesh to 256 runs on a pitch that was batting-friendly. And even the fielding was exceptional, as Ravindra Jadeja pulled off a blinder.

Here's why the umpire Richard Kettleborough did not adjudge Nasum Ahmed's delivery as wide:

Team India just needed a couple of runs, while Virat Kohli was at 97 not out. When Nasum Ahmed came to bowl, he bowled a delivery down the leg side and the ball went past Kohli without touching. Everyone thought that it would be given as wide and it would be difficult for Virat to reach his hundred. But the umpire did not give the wide signal as he felt that Kohli moved away from the line of the ball.

According to the MCC's rule, the delivery cannot be called as a wide if the Batter moves away from the line of the ball and the ball could have touched if the batter did not move, which is why Richard Kettleborough did not call that delivery as wide.

Also, KL Rahul did everything possible from the other end so he could reach the 100 mark. And finally, Virat Kohli got to play for two runs and he smashed the third delivery of the over for a huge six and completed his first ton of the tournament. The Indian team will head to Dharamshala, as they will be playing the New Zealand team on the 22nd of October.
