India asserted their dominance against the Bangladesh side in the 17th match of the World Cup 2023 on the back of a magnificent century from Virat Kohli in Pune. Men in Blue chased down 257 inside 42 overs with a fifty coming from Shubman Gill and skipper Rohit Sharma smashing 48.

Batting first, Bangladesh had a fantastic start with 93 for no loss, but wickets in the middle overs caused the score to be under check from time to time, with Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja bagging two wickets each.

Sharma, after the game, reckoned that they didn't really had a good start, but the bowlers pulled them back into the match due to the timely wickets in the middle phase.

"It was a good win. Something that we were looking forward to. We didn't start off well, but the guys pulled off well towards the middle stage of the game and then towards the backend as well,"

Rohit further praised Jadeja for his athleticism on the field as he took an outstanding catch. He mentioned that they have a medal for the best fielder of every game, and the one who earns the most awards will get a special prize after the conclusion of the tournament.

"Jaddu was brilliant with the ball and took a brilliant catch as well. You just can't beat them. We've got something as a fielder award in the group. It lifts everybody up in the side. Guys who end up with the most medals, there is something special for them towards the end of the tournament as well,"

Speaking after this, the skipper gave an update about all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who suffered an ankle injury while trying to stop during his bowling. He revealed that Hardik's assessment will be done in the morning, and everything depends on how he feels tomorrow. As of now, there is nothing to worry about, which is why they can breathe a sigh of relief.

"There is no major damage (Hardik Pandya), so it's good for us. With an injury like that you've got to assess every day, so we hope he pulls up well tomorrow morning, and then we will do what needs to be done as a team."

India have been playing well in the tournament with four wins out of four, resembling similar figures to their upcoming rivals, New Zealand, whom they will face on 22nd October in Dharamsala.
