India U19 beat Japan U19 in the Group A fixture of the U19 Asia Cup 2024 by a gigantic margin of 211 runs. Skipper Mohamed Amaan’s century powered India to 339 runs total before Japan mustered only 128/8 total in response to suffer a heavy loss.

India U19 batted first on a hitting-friendly wicket at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Ayush Mhatre scored 54 off 29 balls at the top with Vaibhav Suryavanshi also contributing with 23 off 23 balls. Skipper Mohamed Amaan then took charge to slam a blazing century. In a remarkable display for quality hitting, Amaan scored 122 off 118 balls, which included 7 boundaries. He paired up with Karthikeya to stitch a 122-run partnership.

The partnership between Amaan and Karthikeya for the 4th wicket steered India to 261 runs in 40 overs. Hardik Raj added a finishing touch with 25 off 12 balls to guide India to an above-par total of 339/6 at the end of 50 overs. For Japan, Kiefer Lake was most experienced with 84 runs and 2 wickets in 10 overs. Kazuma Kato-Stafford also leaked 61 runs in 7 overs and went wicketless.

Japan, meanwhile, started bravely to stitch up a 50-run opening partnership with Nihar Parmar. Hugo Kelly scored 50 off 111 balls with 6 boundaries. However, Hardik Raj got crucial breakthroughs to dismiss both the openers in 16 overs. Karthikeya supported him to dismiss Koji Hardgrave Abe for an 8-ball duck. A run out of Kazuma Kato-Stafford only added to Japan’s woes.

Japan struggled to keep up with the required run rate as Indian bowlers tightened the leash to clean up the lower middle order on single-digit scores. Charles Hinze’s 35* off 68 wasn’t enough as Japan could only muster 128 runs in 50 overs, leading to a massive 211 runs victory for India U19. With that victory, India U19 are now placed in the 3rd spot in Group A with 2 points in 2 games.
