In a remarkable achievement, Jayden Seales of West Indies recorded the lowest economy (0.30) in Test cricket since 1978. In his extraordinary spell against Bangladesh, Seales deceived Litton Das with an outswinger before the batter edged it to Kavem Hodge at first slip.

On Day 2 of the second Test between West Indies and Bangladesh, fast bowler Jayden Seales stole the show with exceptional bowling and precise execution. After opting to bat first, Bangladesh never got going in the first innings.

Shamar Joseph and Kemar Roach cleaned up the top order, including Mominul and Mahmudul Hasan, with just 10 runs on the board. A 73-run partnership between Shadman Islam and Shahadat Hossain Dip was broken by Joseph.

Litton Das nicks outswinger to record another failure

Meanwhile, Jayden Seales capitalised on the momentum to dismantle the Bangladeshi middle order. To mark the beginning of his four-wicket-haul, Seales set up experienced Litton Das with a beautiful outswinger.

Seales bowled a fuller length ball just outside off stump line, generating a subtle swing away from the batter. Litton, unable to adjust, played a flat-footed push, resulting in a thick outside edge. The ball was dipping as it traveled towards the first slip, but Kavem Hodge showcased excellent reflexes to latch a sharp catch just above the ground.

Once Das walked back, Seales dismissed Taskin Ahmed, Mehidy Hasan, and Nahid Rana to bowl out Bangladesh for 164 runs. At stumps on Day 2, West Indies had 70 runs on the board at the loss of 1 wicket.

Jayden Seales scripts historic record

By allowing just 5 runs in 15.5 overs, Jayden Seales has recorded the lowest economy of 0.30 in Test cricket since 1978. Out of the 15.5 overs, 10 were maiden, and he also picked a 4-wicket-haul. Notably, the economy of 0.30 is also the seventh lowest in the history of the red ball format. Besides, his 4-fer is also the most economical one in record books. Owing to Seales' brilliance, Bangladesh were restricted to a lowly total of 164.
