The 2025 edition of the Ranji Trophy is underway in style, with the first round getting completed on October 18. Many star players featured and did quite well, while some of them underperformed.

So, in this article, we will look at the performances of some of the star players in the first round of the Ranji Trophy 2025.

Mohammed Shami

Mohammed Shami's fitness has been the talk of the town, and the pacer proved it quite well in the first match of the Ranji Trophy against Uttarakhand with seven wickets. He picked three wickets in the first innings, but really found his groove in the second outing, where he bagged four scalps.

He bowled almost 40 overs in the match and has started off the Ranji Trophy 2025 with a bang.

Rinku Singh

Rinku Singh also delivered a stunning performance for Uttar Pradesh against Andhra. He scored an unbeaten 165 and managed to give his team a crucial first innings lead in a high-scoring encounter. Thus, Rinku Singh has made sure that people take notice of his red-ball credentials as well, along with the exploits in the shortest format.

In the process, he has now surpassed Rahul Dravid and Yashasvi Jaiswal in the list of highest first-class averages in India with a minimum of 50 innings.

Tilak Varma

Tilak Varma, the star of India's Asia Cup 2025 campaign, is leading Hyderabad in the Ranji Trophy. However, he departed for a two-ball duck in the game where plenty of big knocks came both from the Hyderabad team and the opposition, Delhi.

Tilak's failure also played a part in Hyderabad not being able to go past the first innings score of Delhi.

Rajat Patidar

Rajat Patidar also started off his Ranji campaign with a bang. He blasted 205 against Punjab and made sure that his team got a big first innings lead. The charismatic right-handed batter has been in great form in recent times with a century in the Duleep Trophy as well, and this performance might help him get into the selection radar.

Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan, the out-of-favour wicketkeeper batter, has also made a strong statement with a big knock against Tamil Nadu in the first round. He scored 173 runs, and it helped his team get a big innings lead against a strong team like Tamil Nadu.

Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad also displayed his class against Kerala. On a difficult pitch, Gaikwad scored 91 in the first innings, which helped his team get the lead over Kerala and then scored an unbeaten 55 in the second outing.

Gaikwad has not been playing for India in any format in recent times. Thus, he needs big scores under his belt and would now be looking to continue the good start to the season in the upcoming matches.
