Travis Head's wicket against South Africa (Source:Screengrab/Hotstar)
Travis Head, the swashbuckling Australian opener, has departed cheaply in the second T20I against South Africa in Darwin. The batter could manage just five runs, and it is his second consecutive single-digit score of the series.
Travis Head Misses Out Again In Darwin
In the first match, Travis Head scored two runs, while in the second, after hitting one boundary, the southpaw was dismissed by Aiden Markram. It was the last delivery of the second over, and Aiden Markram bowled it short on middle. Head rocked back and pulled it in the hope that he would clear the deep mid-wicket fence.
Unfortunately for Travis Head, he did not time the ball perfectly and ended up hitting the ball towards the deep mid-wicket fielder. The young Lhuan-dre Pretorius in the deep kept his cool and grabbed a good catch just inside the fence.
Australia Under Pressure After Early Wickets In The Big Run Chase
The wicket was a big one for South Africa as Head can be a pretty dangerous player when he gets going. For the Aussies, though, it was another failure for their new opening pair of Marsh and Head in T20Is, and the Aussies now need their middle order to fire if they want to win the series.
The home team have a massive target of 219 in front of them, though. Earlier, Mitchell Marsh won the toss and decided to bowl first, and his bowlers started well, picking three wickets in quick succession. However, Dewald Brevis was in no mood to back down and played one of the finest T20I innings by a South African batter.
He smashed a 41-ball hundred and broke plenty of records on his way to 125. This is a must-win game for South Africa, and with Travis Head failing again, the Proteas are in a strong position to level the series.
