Dewald Brevis after scoring his century (AFP)
Dewald Brevis has smashed a 41-ball century in the second T20I against Australia in Darwin. It is the second fastest hundred by a South African in T20Is and the youngster has unleashed an unbelievable counter-attack on the Australian bowling attack.
The right-handed batter walked out to bat at number 4 and though South Africa lost early wickets, Brevis kept playing his shots. He hit Aussie bowlers all over the park and by the time he got to his hundred, he had eight sixes and nine fours in his kitty. Brevis is now the youngest South African batter to score a century in T20Is at the age of 22.
Dewald Brevis' Maiden T20I Hundred Takes South Africa To A Historic Total
Dewald Brevis started off his knock with two dot balls, but managed to get a boundary on the third delivery to kickstart his innings. The batter failed in the last match, but he did not let that pressure get into his head and three balls after his first boundary, the 22-year-old smashed his first six.
Brevis hit all the bowlers that came on his way, but unleashed absolute carnage against Glenn Maxwell, who bagged two early wickets. He hit three sixes and a four in a single over and then kept hitting boundaries at regular intervals. Dewald Brevis also got good support from Tristan Stubbs at the other end, and the duo stitched a stand of 126 runs in just 57 balls to put South Africa in command.
The South African youngster got to his century in the 15th over with a boundary. However, he did not stop there, as he batted right till the end, taking his team's score to 218 with his 125 off 56 balls. In the process, he now has the highest score for South Africa in a T20I and the Proteas have notched up their highest-ever T20I total against Australia.
