Sri Lanka have dealt a heavy blow in the ongoing first Test against England, as their star batter, Dinesh Chandimal, has been taken to hospital for scans after being hit on his right thumb by a deadly Mark Wood bouncer.

The incident occurred when Chandimal was batting on 10 when he got hit on his right thumb by a 143 kmph Mark Wood delivery. The delivery left Chandimal in immense pain, as the physios rushed to the ground to attend him.

Despite several sprays and attention, Chandimal had no relief, and his hand too was trembling in pain. Eventually, the former Sri Lanka skipper was forced to retire hurt and was also taken to the hospital for X-rays.

Chandimal Suspected Of Broken Thumb

The latest update from the ground is that Chandimal is suspected of a broken thumb. Things are not looking good for Chandimal as Sri Lanka awaits scan results. As things look at the moment, Chandimal is unlikely to continue in this match and there are doubts over his participation in the rest of the tour.

The right-hand batter has had an unfortunate series so far, as he got out in the first innings when the ball hardly rose from the ground and was trapped in front of the wickets.
