Pakistan and England are facing each other in the third Test, and the series decider is at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. The home team is under pressure in the match's first innings as England is gradually taking a solid hold.
The English skipper, Ben Stokes, batted first in the match after winning the toss. The Pakistan bowlers started brilliantly and had the visitors reeling at 118/6 in the 33rd over of the innings.
Jamie Smith Scripted The Comeback Of England
However, Jamie Smith played a brilliant counter-attacking knock after this, bringing England back to the game. The lower-order batters aided him as England moved towards a competitive total in the first innings. Before being bundled out in the 69th over, England had 267 runs on the board.
In reply, Pakistan made a steady start. However, the opening duo could not score more than 35 runs. After this, they lost two more wickets and were struggling at 46/3 in the 14th over. The onus was on the skipper, Shan Masood, to take the team to safety. However, Masood fell even after getting a start.
The Set Up And Dismissal By Shoaib Bashir
The Pakistan skipper was batting at 26 from 69 deliveries when the English spinner, Shoaib Bashir, trapped him with a brilliant set-up. On Bashir bowled the first delivery of the 36th over a bit short and outside the off stump. Masood transferred his weight onto the back foot and tapped the ball to the backward point fielder. Though the southpaw looked comfortable on the delivery, it was a clever set-up by the English spinner.
On the next delivery, Bashir bowled a full delivery at the middle and leg stump. Masood tried to knock the ball to the onside with the angle but closed the face of the bat early. All he managed was an outside edge that was taken at first slip by Ollie Pope.
While much depended on Shan Masood as a batter, his wicket put Pakistan in deep trouble. Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan are now trying to do the repair job for the home team.
