It was another exhilarating day of Test cricket at Headingley in Leeds, where the ENG vs IND Test saw some unmissable action as day 3 ended with some outstanding piece of cricket. Both sides, not ready to back down, gave one punches to each other, one after the other, as we head into day 4 of the 1st Test.

England, who had a centurion at the crease, lost him early, but the visitors fought back hard, courtesy of Jasprit Bumrah. The end of the day saw some outstanding batting class from the Indian opener. By the end of day three, both sides are exactly equal, with no team having an inch of extra advantage, going into the penultimate day of this Test.

Here’s a look at the IND vs ENG highlights from Day 3 of the 1st Test.

Pope Departs Early In The Day But Brook's Fifty Extends Dominance After Stokes' Dismissal

Starting the day with the grief news of former English cricketer David Lawrence passing away, England lost their centurion Ollie Pope early in the day, courtesy of Prasidh Krishna, who saw the back of the centurion, as he got him to edge one to keeper Rishabh Pant. Pope departed for 106, but gave England a lot more hope with his knock.

At the other end, Harry Brook was at the crease without a score after his name at the beginning of the day, as he had an early reprieve in the final over of the last day, courtesy of a no-ball from Jasprit Bumrah. However, taking advantage, Brook made full use of the opportunity and started attacking early in the day, going after Krishna with a four and a six in the very first over.

Skipper Ben Stokes joined Brook at the crease after the fall of Pope, but departed very soon after scoring just 20 off 52 deliveries, as Mohammed Siraj found his edge that travelled to keeper Pant. Brook, who was adamant with his approach, continued his merry ways and took after the best bowlers with his outstanding batting approach.

He rattled Bumrah with his attack and went after him without worrying too much, showing signs of pure confidence. On the way came luck, where he was dropped by Pant. As he managed to register 50 after his name by the end of the first session.

Fiery Bumrah's Fifer Helps India Knock Over England For 465 As Visitors Gain 6-Run Lead

Going into the second session, England were ahead in the game, but one man again changed the fate, as his name was Jasprit Bumrah. The Indian pacer went against the English lineup as he decided to take on the opposition with his deception.

After Stokes’ departure, it was Jamie Smith’s turn, who was playing excellently on 40, as he went for the hook against Krishna, but found Ravindra Jadeja at deep mid-wicket, who parried the ball back into the game at the boundary line and was caught by Sudharsan, as they went for the relay and pulled it off brilliantly, as they saw the back of Smith, giving India much hope, which was just before the second new ball was taken as Bumrah was brought back into the attack straightway. It was then a battle between Brook and Siraj, as the English batter was constantly looking to dominate most of the time.

However, another major moment came in the game when Brook was dropped by Yashasvi Jaiswal at gully, as India and Bumrah looked in disbelief, giving Brook another chance on 83. Giving a look, India dropped five chances to England in this innings, as they themselves gave England away in this game.

However, Brook's joy was short-lived as he fell into the trap of Krishna, who bowled a short delivery and, as he after the hook, was caught by Shardul Thakur at long leg as India made their way back into the game with some outstanding bowling. But looking at the score, Brook, who was on 99, looked in disbelief, shambled, and was heartbroken, alongside being devastated.

With the score being 398/7, India looked to make their way back into the game, but it was some lower-order hitting from Chris Woakes and Brydon Carse as England put some hefty runs on the board in the last few overs. But again, it was the master, Bumrah, who got some quick wickets to help India roll out England for 465, as they were just six runs short of India's total in the first innings. Bumrah again proved world-class, picking a five-wicket haul for just 83 runs, while Krishna's three wickets and Siraj's two wickets were the other contributions, but they went for too many runs.

India End Day-3 On 90/2 As Jaiswal Edges One Early But Rahul Displays Class Yet Again

Looking to start the chase on a positive note, India had a false start, as they lost their opener and first innings' centurion Yashasvi Jaiswal early in the day to Brydon Carse, as he edged one to Jamie Smith and lost his wicket for just four when India's score was just 16. Looking now, it was all England's moment, but they failed to capitalize, as the opener KL Rahul, who scored a brilliant 42 in the first innings, was accompanied by Sai Sudharsan this time.

The duo went on and played some outstanding shots, where Rahul hit some crucial boundaries. However, just three overs before the day was about to end, Sudharsan lost his wicket to English skipper Ben Stokes for just 30, as he flicked one straight to Zak Crawley at mid-wicket. The plan worked for England, and India lost its second wicket for 82.

Shubman Gill made his way out to the center and played a brilliant cut that went over the slips, as he found a boundary of his very first delivery. Rahul was batting on 47 when the rain came down heavily, as the early stumps were called, with India having 90 on the board for the loss of two wickets after 23.5 overs, having a lead of 96 runs, marking the end of day 3's play.
