KL Rahul has once again entered the history books as the right-handed batter completed 1,000 runs against England in Tests, becoming the 17th Indian to achieve this feat. The India opener reached this milestone during the third session of Day 3, when India came to bat with a lead of six runs.

Rahul, who was batting on 39 (55) at that point, took just 14 Tests against England to etch his name among the elite. The 33-year-old scored 42 runs in the first innings and required just five runs in the second to reach the landmark.

KL Rahul’s Performance vs England

Rahul’s 26th Test innings against England now includes two centuries and six fifty-plus scores. He averages over 39 against England—statistics indicate this is among the highest for Indian batters with 1,000+ runs in India-England series, though your mention of 55.5 may be a miscalculation or refer to a specific period; his official average is closer to 39–40.

Rahul has eight Test centuries and three of them have come against England, his most against any nation.

KL Rahul Struggling to Convert Starts Into Big Scores

KL Rahul has been impressive in red-ball cricket recently, but he has struggled to convert starts into big scores. Even in this match, he failed to turn his 40+ score into a century, while his peers Yashasvi Jaiswal and captain Shubman Gill went on to score hundreds.

During the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), Rahul was one of India’s most consistent batters, scoring 276 runs in 10 innings. However, he failed to register a century and managed only two fifty-plus scores.

Nearly Two Years Since a Test Century?

Rahul’s most recent Test century came in December 2023, when India toured South Africa. The 33-year-old scored 101 (137) against the Proteas in the first Test of the two-match series.
