Jasprit Bumrah has continued his impressive bowling performance in the Headingley Test on Day 3, helping India take a slim lead of 6 runs at the end of the first innings of both sides with a five-wicket haul. It was the speedster's 14th five-wicket haul, and he now has 10-fifers in SENA countries, equalling the great Muttiah Muralitharan. The pacer is now also the first Asian bowler to take 150 wickets in SENA countries.

Jasprit Bumrah Shows His Bowling Class Despite Fielding Setbacks

The pacer's fifer came with a wicket of Josh Tongue, and it helped India bowl out England for 465. However, Bumrah could have reached the landmark earlier had Indian fielders held onto their catches in the innings.

Nevertheless, Jasprit Bumrah still looked the most effective bowler from the Indian contingent by a long way. On Day 2, he was the only bowler to get wickets and removed Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett and Joe Root to not let England run away with aggressive batting at the start. On Day 3 too, he produced an opportunity against Harry Brook, but Yashasvi Jaiswal dropped him and eventually, Bumrah had to settle with the wickets of Woakes and Tongue.

List Of Visiting Bowlers With Most Wickets In SENA Countries

  • 213 - Courtney Walsh (West Indies, 106 innings)
  • 184 - Curtly Ambrose (West Indies, 76 innings)
  • 150 - Jasprit Bumrah (India, 60 innings)*
  • 148 - Malcolm Marshall (West Indies, 59 innings)
  • 146 - Wasim Akram (Pakistan, 55 innings)

The performance has taken him on par with Kapil Dev in the list of most fifers for India in away Tests. He now has 42 wickets in England and has equalled Mohammed Shami's tally in the country. Overall, he is third in the list of most wickets by a visiting pacer in SENA countries and has shown the world why he is the best bowler of the current generation.

Now, with the game evenly poised, India would have to bat well in the second innings to give Bumrah and other bowlers a decent chance to have a shot at English batters in the last innings.
