Khulna Tigers concluded the Chattogram leg of the BPL 2024-25 season with an exhilarating six-wicket win over Sylhet Strikers in match 32 of the tournament. Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz led his team from the front with an enterprising innings in the run-chase, and by picking up a crucial wicket earlier in the game.

After losing opening partner Rony Talukdar to Khulna Tigers captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz for a two-ball duck in the first over of the match, Sylhet Strikers’ Scotland import George Munsey counterattacked with a majestic 58 off 32 balls. Munsey belted six boundaries and four sixes in his blistering knock, and formed a 74-run partnership for the second wicket with number three batter Zakir Hasan.

Munsey was eventually cleaned up by Abu Hider, before Salman Irshad accounted for the wicket of Kadeem Alleyne as the Strikers reached 93-3 around the halfway stage of the innings.

The Sylhet Strikers managed to conjure just 59 runs from the final 10 overs of their innings to reach 152-9. Zakir Hasan at number three carted 44 off 32 balls to compose valiant runs from his end, while the rest of the Sylhet Strikers batting line-up crumbled in front of Abu Hider (2-27), Salman Irshad (2-24) and Hasan Mahmud (2-34).

Aamer Jamal (1-25) and Nasum Ahmed (1-1) also picked up the key wickets of Jaker Ali and Ariful Haque respectively to compound Strikers’ batting misery.

Khulna Tigers captain and opening batter Mehidy Hasan Miraz led his team from the front with a dynamic 29-ball half-century. The cricketer composed 65 runs for the opening wicket with partner Mohammad Naim, until the latter was done-in by Sylhet Strikers spinner Nihaduzzaman.

Afif Hossain at number three failed to sustain Tigers’ early momentum as he was caught out by Jaker Ali off Samiullah Shinwari (1-15) just a couple of overs later in the innings. Mehidy Hasan raced to 70 off 50 balls with eight boundaries and two sixes but the well-set half centurion also relinquished Khulna Tigers pursuit at 106-3, courtesy of Nihaduzzaman (2-25).

William Bosisto smeared 19 unbeaten runs from just 11 balls after the dismissals of Mahidul Islam Ankon (17 off 13) as the Khulna Tigers secured a comprehensive six-wicket victory with a ball to spare.

Fellow Australian cricketer Alex Ross also chipped in with an unbeaten 20 from 23 balls to anchor the run-chase during the slog overs.
