Lifting their team from a precarious 48-8, Bangladesh’s number four batter Mominul Haque punched out 82 fighting runs from 112 balls with eight boundaries and two sixes to form a valiant 103-run partnership with tailender Taijul Islam (30 off 95) for the ninth wicket.

Shortly after taking Bangladesh past the 150-run mark, both Mominul and Taijul were accounted for by Senuran Muthusamy (1-10) and Keshav Maharaj (2-57) respectively as the two Proteas spinners wrapped up the hosts for just 159. With a strong lead of 416 runs, South African captain Aiden Markram enforced a follow-on to Bangladesh.

Chasing a huge deficit of 416 runs just to make South Africa bat again, Bangladesh lost opener Shadman Islam to a fourth-stump line ball from visiting paceman Dane Paterson at 15-1 in 5.1 overs. Left-arm spinner Senuran Muthusamy further piled on Bangladesh’s misery by getting rid of other opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy as well as number three batter Zakir Hasan.

He also trapped senior man Mushfiqur Rahim plumb in front of stumps for just two as Bangladesh slipped to 48-5 within the first hour of their second innings.

Bangladesh, having enveloped for 143 in 43.4 overs, crashed to a huge defeat by an innings and 273 runs to concede their two-match home series to the South Africans.
