Bangladesh are working hard to gain an edge in the second Test against South Africa after facing a seven-wicket defeat in the first match. This game, held at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, began with South Africa winning the toss and opting to bat.
Bangladesh’s Taijul Islam emerged as a key player, delivering impressive bowling to slow down South Africa’s batting momentum. On Day 1, he took out Aiden Markram, who scored 33 off 55 balls, and later dismissed Tristan Stubbs after a strong 106 off 198 balls.
South Africa, however, managed to hold steady and resumed Day 2 with a score of 307. Taijul continued his sharp form, taking down David Bedingham for 59 runs and later Tony de Zorzi, who was aiming for a double century, but ended his innings with 117 off 269 balls. Through it all, Taijul stood as Bangladesh’s lone warrior, keeping his team in the game on a pitch that seemed favourable for batting.
By this point, Taijul had claimed four wickets, and with momentum on his side, he was fired up to get his fifth. He achieved this milestone by dismissing Kyle Verreynne in the 103rd over of South Africa’s innings.
With a perfectly placed arm ball, he bowled it full and outside off, bringing it back in as Verreynne attempted a sweep but missed, leading to an LBW. Verreynne challenged the call, but ball tracking showed it was accurate, marking another five-wicket haul for Taijul, Bangladesh’s skilled left-arm spinner.
