Bangladesh are currently in tatters against South Africa in the second Test match of the two-match series at the Zahru Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, Bangladesh. After their humiliating show in India, they are staring down the barrel to a clean sweep at home.
Notably, South Africa won the toss and batted first, which gave them a match-winning advantage. Even though they lost Aiden Markram early, Tony de Zorzi and Tristan Stubbs ensured the team moved towards a massive total.
De Zorzi, Stubbs And Wiaan Mulder Took South Africa To A Massive Total
While Stubbs was dismissed for 106 off 198 deliveries, de Zorzi converted his century into a daddy Hundred and scored 177 off 269 deliveries. Later, Wiaan Mulder scored a hundred and remained unbeaten on 105 off 150 deliveries alongside Senuran Muthusamy (68 off 75). South Africa posted a massive 575/6 before declaring in their first innings.
Bangladesh Were Awarded Five Penalty Runs - Here's Why?
Though the Bangladeshi did not show much resilience in their first innings, a rare scene was witnessed when they came out to bat. Bangladesh started their innings at 5/0, even without facing a ball. This was because they were awarded five penalty runs as Muthusamy ran straight down the wicket while batting.
Kagiso Rabada started the proceedings for South Africa and began with a loosener down the leg side. It was signalled as five wides by the umpire. Thus Bangladesh had 10 runs on the board after just a single delivery. This was a rare sight in a cricket game in which 10 runs had been scored after only one ball.
Kagiso Rabada Scripted The Decimation Of The Bangladesh Batting Line-up
Even though the start was on a happier note, things soon took a grey turn for Bangladesh. Kagiso Rabada ran rampant through the home team's batting order and picked up five wickets for 37 runs in his nine overs. Bangladesh could only manage 159 runs in their first innings. Mominul Haque was the only batter to show some fight, scoring 82 runs off 112 deliveries.
Aiden Markram enforced the follow-on and invited Bangladesh to bat again. The struggles continued for them even in the second innings. At the time of writing, Bangladesh has been bundled out for 143 in the second innings and have lost the match by an innings and 273 runs.
