Australia Women outclassed their Indian counterparts in all aspects of their first ODI match at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane on Thursday, November 5. Megan Schutt’s opening spell turned out to be a decisive factor in the game as the hosts took a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.
Here’s the timeline of how AUS-W vs IND-W panned out in Brisbane:
AUS-W vs IND-W Highlights: Mandhana Falters, Harleen Deol Fails In Comeback Game
Indian openers Priya Punia (3 off 17) and Smriti Mandhana (8 off 10) failed to justify captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s call of batting first by falling early to Australian new ball operator Megan Schutt. Harleen Deol (19 off 34) at number three also failed to leave a mark in her comeback match by getting holed out over mid-on by Annabel Sutherland off Ashleigh Gardner (1-14) as India Women crashed to 42-3 in 11.3 overs.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur was also caught plumb in front of stumps by Australian speedster Annabel Sutherland (1-13) for just 17 as the visitors lost their fourth wicket for 62 on the board.

Jemimah Rodrigues (23 off 42) added some stability to the faltering Indian innings with a brief 27-run partnership with wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh (14 off 35). However, Kim Garth’s clean-up job of Rodrigues in the 27th over induced a dramatic Indian batting collapse as the visitors lost their final six wickets for just 11 runs.
Slipping from 89-4 at one stage to 100 all out in 34.2 overs, Megan Schutt mopped up the Indian tail to snare career-best ODI figures of 5-19. Spinner Alana King also took the key scalp of Indian debutant Titas Sadhu to claim 1-18 in her five overs.
AUS-W vs IND-W Highlights: Litchfield, Voll Start Off Chase With 48 In 7 Overs
Australian opener Phoebe Litchfield punched out a swift 35 from 29 balls during her attacking 48-run partnership with Georgia Voll. After belting eight boundaries in her enterprising knock, Litchfield picked out Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur at mid-off as Renuka Singh Thakur delivered the opening breakthrough for the visitors in the seventh over of the run-chase.

Renuka Singh (3-45) led India’s spirited fightback after the opening breakthrough by dismissing Ellyse Perry and Beth Mooney in quick succession. Annabel Sutherland at number five was also toppled by Indian leg-spinner Priya Mishra as the hosts slipped from 48-0 to 77-4 by the time of reaching 13.2 overs.
Unbeaten opener and debutant Georgia Voll seemingly remained unfazed at the other end as her composed 46* took Australia past the finishing line with five wickets and nearly 34 overs to spare. In doing so, the hosts went 1-0 up in the three-match ODI series in Brisbane.
