India Collapse - (Source:@Johns/X.com)
On Thursday, December 5, India women locked horns against Australia women at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side won the toss and elected to bat first. However, the decision turned out to be a nightmare as the batters put on a horrible show and collapsed for just 100 runs.
India got off to the worst possible start as both openers departed early as Smriti Mandhana too amassed just 8 (10), which featured two fours. Harleen Deol and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur tried to stitch a partnership, but the Women in Blue kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
Australia Bowlers Humiliate India
At one point in the match, India were 89/4 and lost the next six wickets for just 11 runs. It is their 17th-lowest total in ODI history. Talking about the Australian bowlers, Megan Schutt was the star with the ball as she took a five-wicket haul.
Megan registered the figures of 5/19, which is the joint-best bowling figures by an Australian bowler against India women. Notably, Ellyse Perry too once registered figures of 5/19 against India.
Megan Schutt Troubles India Again
The five-wicket haul against India women in the first ODI is Schutt's best figures in ODI cricket. It is worth noting that Schutt got the crucial wickets of openers Priya Punia and Smriti Mandhana. Further, she got Richa Ghosh, Saima Thakor, and Priya Mishra out to complete her five-wicket haul. The 31-year-old has now taken 128 wickets in her ODI career.
The performance has shown why Australia are leading 9-1 against India women in the last 10 games the two have locked horns in. At the time of writing this article, Australia are 18/0 after 4.1 overs and heading towards a big win.
