KL Rahul, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and others once again failed to lead India A to safety after fast bowlers Prasidh Krishna and Mukesh Kumar gave their all against hosts Australia A. By the time of stumps on Day 2, India A had a bare lead to its name over the hosts at the expense of their entire top-order.
Here's the timeline of how AUS A vs IND A panned out in Melbourne:
AUS A vs IND A Highlights: Mukesh Kumar, Prasidh Take Early Wickets
Resuming the innings at 53-2 on Day 2, Australia A lost overnight batter Sam Konstas to Khaleel Ahmed in just the second over of the morning session. Prasidh Krishna and Mukesh Kumar prevented Oliver Davies (13 off 20) and Beau Webster (5 off 16) from flourishing as the hosts slipped to 84-5 in 28.2 overs.
AUS A vs IND A Highlights: Marcus Harris Takes Australia A Ahead
Unbeaten opener Marcus Harris stabilized Australia A's faltering innings by carving a calculated 68-run partnership with wicketkeeper-batter Jimmy Peirson. The two cricketers navigated the hosts past the 150-run mark, with Harris serving as the biggest benefactor by making 74 runs off 138 balls.
Prasidh Krishna swiftly tilted the tide back in India's favour with a raging three-wicket burst shortly after Australia A reached 152. The Indian seamer had Peirson and Harris both caught behind by Dhruv Jurel and bounced out Scott Boland for a first-ball duck as Australia A slipped from 152-5 to 167-8 in the space of just four overs.
With number 11 Michael Neser absent hurt, the final wicket pair of Nathan McAndrew (26* off 36) and Corey Rocchiccioli (35 off 28) swelled the Australia A lead to 62 runs with a speedy 56-run partnership for the ninth wicket.
With Australia reaching 223 in 62.1 overs, Mukesh Kumar got the final wicket of Rocchiccioli to claim figures of 3-41.
AUS A vs IND A Highlights: India A Lose Top 5 By Stumps
Facing a deficit of 62 runs, India A lost each of their top five batters before reaching stumps on Day 2. While opener Abhimanyu Easwaran (17 off 31) and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (11 off 20) were done in by Nathan McAndrew's pace, Sai Sudharsan failed to negotiate Beau Webster and had to make his walk back to the pavilion for just three to his name.
Australia A spinner Corey Rocchiccioli knocked over senior man KL Rahul after grinding it out for 44 deliveries to score 10 runs late in the day. Devdutt Padikkal became Webster's second wicket of the innings as India A lost its entire top five by the time of reaching 56 in 22 overs. Dhruv Jurel (19*) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (9*) survived the final nine overs before stumps as India A reached 73-5 to find themselves just 11 ahead of the hosts.
