In a major setback for Australia, seasoned fast bowler Michael Neser limped off the field during the second official Test against India A in MCG after an injury relapse. Neser, who pulled his hamstring last month in the One-Day Cup, once again suffered the same issue after wreaking havoc in his new-ball spell.

Australia are yet to determine their final squad for the upcoming 5-game mega Test series against India. Perth Test, the series opener, is scheduled for November 22 and a 18-member squad from India is gearing up to depart soon.

However, for Australia, injury crisis are piling up. Cameron Green was ruled out for the summer due to a back surgery and they still don’t have a reliable opener to partner up with Usman Khawaja. On top of that, now the pace attack has been jolted with a major setback.

Michael Neser picks up hamstring niggle

During Australia A’s second unofficial Test against India A in MCG, right-arm fast bowler Michael Neser breathed fire with the new ball. In his 13-over spell in the first innings, Neser knocked out India’s top order, including Abhimanyu Easwaran, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sai Sudharsan, and Devdutt Padikkal.

His sensational spell left India A reeling at 11/4. However, in his 13th over of the day, Michael Neser pulled up his hamstring and limped off the field in pain. He has been ruled out to bowl in the remainder of the Test with future participation in Border Gavaskar Trophy uncertain.

For Michael Neser, who fetched 374 wickets in 107 first-class games, hamstring niggle is a recurring issue. He strained the same muscle last month during the Domestic One-Day Cup while playing for Queensland.

Nathan McSweeney likely to make historic debut

Rumours suggest that 25-year-old Nathan McSweeney is set to debut in international cricket during the upcoming Border Gavaskar series. He is likely to replace Cameron Green and could potentially be the X-factor for Australia. McSweeney is currently leading Australia A in the unofficial series against India A and scored an unbeaten 88 in the first game.
