Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan had a cracking day behind the stumps in the second ODI against Australia at Adelaide Oval, grabbing six catches to match Pakistan's record for the most catches by a wicketkeeper in an ODI innings. Rizwan now joins Sarfaraz Ahmed, who also took six catches in a game against South Africa back in March 2015.
Mohammad Rizwan Matches Record for Most Catches by a Pakistan Wicketkeeper in an ODI
Mohammad Rizwan’s incredible catching put him up there with some of Pakistan's best wicketkeepers. Before him and Sarfaraz, Moin Khan held the record with five catches against Zimbabwe in 1995, followed by Rashid Latif, who took five catches against Sri Lanka in 2003.
Notably, Rizwan had a chance to create history and become the first cricketer to take seven catches in an ODI. However, he missed Adam Zampa’s catch off Naseem Shah’s bowling in the 34th over.
Haris Rauf Runs Riot As Aussies Bundle Out For 163
Meanwhile, when it came to bowling, Haris Rauf ran riot by grabbing a fifer and wrapping up his spell with figures of 5/29 in eight overs. Rauf was on fire as he gave nothing away to the Aussies batters and kept them on a leash.
He picked up crucial wickets like Josh Inglis, Marnus Labuschagne, Aaron Hardie, Glenn Maxwell, and Pat Cummins, with Rizwan safely snagging up four of these edges.
Shaheen Shah Afridi also made his presence felt, taking three wickets, including both openers Jake Fraser-McGurk and Matthew Short. Mohammad Hasnain and Naseem Shah pitched in with a wicket each as Pakistan's bowlers tore through Australia's lineup, bowling them out for just 163 runs in 35 overs.
Now, with the bowlers doing their bit, Pakistan's batters have a manageable target to chase down and keep the series alive. Rizwan and the bowlers have set things up nicely, and it's up to the batters to finish the job and level the series.
