Michael Neser and Beau Webster blazed through India A’s star-studded batting line-up at the MCG on the opening day of the second four-day match. Visiting fast bowlers Mukesh Kumar and Khaleel Ahmed also picked up a wicket each late in the day to keep India A in the reckoning.

Here’s the timeline of how AUS A vs IND A panned out in Melbourne:

AUS A vs IND A Highlights: Michael Neser Crashes Indian A Top-Order

Michael Neser got three wickets with the new ball, and accounted for four of the top five India A batters, all inside the opening session of the match. The 34-year-old dismissed Abhimanyu Easwaran and Sai Sudharsan for ducks in the opening over before getting rid of visiting captain Ruturaj Gaikwad for four. In one of his return spells, the Australia A paceman snared the prized-scalp of a well-set Devdutt Padikkal as India A slipped to 64-5 in 24.2 overs.

Michael Neser’s new ball partner Scott Boland had India A opener and seasoned campaigner KL Rahul nicked behind towards Jimmy Peirson for just four in the second over of the match.

AUS A vs IND A Highlights: Dhruv Jurel’s Fighting 80 Pushes India A To 161

Batting at number six but arriving to the crease at 11-4 in just the third over of the match, wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel punched out a fighting 80 to defy Australia A’s raging pace attack. Forming cunning partnerships with Devdutt Padikkal, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Prasidh Krishna, Jurel’s 186-ball defiance extended India A’s total past the 150-run mark.

The 23-year-old listed six boundaries and two sixes in the process, all while losing partners at regular intervals on the other end. For Australia A, spinners Corey Rocchiccioli (1-21), Beau Webster (3-19) and Nathan McSweeney (1-5) shrugged off India’s entire lower half to envelop the visitor’s innings for 161 in 57.1 overs.

AUS A vs IND A Highlights: Australia A Lose Captain, Bancroft Before Stumps

Australia A lost captain and opening batter Nathan McSweeney for just 14 to India A new ball operator Mukesh Kumar in the ninth over of the innings. A few overs later, Kumar’s partner Khaleel Ahmed orchestrated Cameron Bancroft’s exit for a sluggish 3 as Australia A slipped to 43-2 in 14.3 overs.

By the time of early stumps on Day 1, Australia A reached 53-2 in 17.1 overs with Marcus Harris (26*) and Sam Konstas (1*) still batting at the crease.
