Rohit Sharma hit out at critics in an explosive interview on Day 2 of the fifth Test between India and Australia. Amid heavy criticism, Bollywood actor Farhan Akhtar jumped to Rohit's defence, applauding his selflessness to prioritise his team's best interest.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma opted to rest from the fifth Test between India and Australia, creating an uproar amongst the Indian cricket fraternity.

Some fans questioned whether Rohit was actually dropped from the format due to his failures. Moreover, speculations of a rift between Gautam Gambhir and Sharma also gained momentum.

Meanwhile, during Day 2's lunch break, Rohit Sharma appeared for an interview with Star Sports and cleared the air. He squashed retirement rumours and suggested that he stood down to prioritise the team's needs, as India cannot afford to play with too many out-of-form players in a must-win game. He added that he won't retire anytime soon and will work hard to regain his form.

However, Rohit still faced criticism for cheating a facade over his absence in this abrupt interview. Amid scrutiny, the captain found some support in Bollywood actor Farhan Akhtar. The actor took to Instagram to share a heartfelt message, asking fans to appreciate his selflessness. 

He added that every player goes through a lean patch. However, it takes courage to drop yourself for the sake of the team.

Jasprit Bumrah gets injured after replacing Rohit

In Rohit Sharma's absence, Jasprit Bumrah turned up as India's stand-in captain for the fifth Test against Australia in Sydney. He bowled brilliantly in the second inning to pick up two wickets before an injury scare forced him out of the field. Bumrah went to hospital for scans, leaving the fans shocked and concerned. He did return to the ground after an hour. However, it's still uncertain if the pacer will return to bowl in the last inning.
