It has been made official, Saim Ayub, the star Pakistan opener has been ruled out of the second Test match Vs South Africa in Cape Town. The opening batter suffered a horrific injury on Day 1 and was taken off the field.

Ryan Rickelton played a delivery through the off side as Saim Ayub gave it a chase and twisted his ankle and was subsequently taken on a stretcher. His test results indicated that the opener will be ruled out for at-least six weeks, meaning that his play-time in Champions Trophy hangs in jeopardy.

"Saim underwent X-rays and MRI tests this afternoon," the statement read. "The reports have been sent to specialists in London for further advice on the treatment and time away from competitive cricket," said the report.

The youngster was replaced by Abdullah Shafique on the pitch on Day 1, however, can he bat in both the innings for Pakistan?.

Will Ayub's substitute be allowed to bat?

Unfortunately, Abdullah Shafique, the Saim Ayub replacement cannot bat in the remaining two innings for Pakistan. Only in the case of concussion to a teammate, is the substitute allowed to bat. However, in this case, Ayub suffered an ankle injury and hence, his replacement can only field.

South Africa in driving seat at the end of Day 1

Day 1 belonged to the Proteas who witnessed two centurions in the first innings. Ryan Rickelton is batting at 176 and is eyeing a double hundred, meanwhile, skipper Temba Bavuma also slammed a century as the hosts ended the day at 316/4.

Pakistan bowlers picked up the early wickets, but failed to capitalise as they couldn't break the partnership between Rickelton and Bavuma.
