Rishabh Pant Fifty [Source: @BCCI/X.com]
India's dynamic middle-order batter Rishabh Pant has had a tough time in Australia so far, but the left-hander turned his fortunes around in the second innings of the ongoing fifth Test in the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25, that too when his side needed him the most. Pant took on Aussie spearhead Mitchell Starc to deposit the ball into the stands on two consecutive occasions.
India were reeling at 59 for three when Rishabh Pant made his way to the centre against a fierce pace bowling attack that were moving the ball around a bit. However, the wicketkeeper didn't bother much and took on the opposition in his own style, taking the ball to the cleaners on multiple occasions.
Pant banged a six against Starc on the second delivery of the 22nd over to reach his half-century in style off just 29 deliveries, registering the second fastest half-century by an Indian in Test cricket, with the previous best also coming from the bat of southpaw against Sri Lanka of 28 balls.
Soon after getting to his 15th Test fifty, Rishabh didn't put his guns down and went after the left-armer again in the similar fashion, getting a similar result. The fearless wicketkeeper stunned the pacer and the spectators at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) with shots typical of Pant.
His innings ended on 61 off just 33 with six fours and four sixes to his name, but helped India stay in the game as they fight for the series-levelling victory.
Pant's Heroics Keep India In The Game
India's score was 124 for five when Pant departed, putting the team ahead by 128 as they were able to manage a four-run lead after the end of the first innings.
By the time of writing, India were 137 for six down, as they are now ahead of the opposition by 141 runs and would be aiming for decent knocks from Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja, who are still at the crease.
