The vibes are already set for the Women’s Premier League, which is set to get underway from January 9, 2026. Camaraderie among players and off-field banter have already taken centre stage.

As seen in a recent video, UP Warriorz captain Meg Lanning was spotted playfully sledging Delhi Capitals skipper Jemimah Rodrigues during a pre-tournament show ahead of WPL 2026.

At the event, all five team captains were present, including Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur. They were seated around a table, engaging in a light-hearted conversation with the hosts of the show.

During a truth-or-dare round, Meg Lanning was given a dare by the host, which involved sledging her former teammate Jemimah Rodrigues.

For the unaware, Jemimah Rodrigues had played under Meg Lanning during her time as Delhi Capitals captain before the WPL 2026 mega auction, where Lanning was released by the franchise.

UP Warriorz then signed Lanning and appointed her captain. Prior to that, Lanning had been part of the Delhi Capitals’ campaign for three seasons since the league’s inception.

Lanning’s remark leaves Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet in splits

When asked to sledge Jemimah, Lanning responded in a fun and quirky manner.

Lanning said, “So now you know how your fielders feel like when they don't listen to you and keep dancing on the field.”

The light-hearted jab referred to moments during their Delhi Capitals days, when Rodrigues was often seen enjoying herself on the field while Lanning issued fielding instructions.

The remark triggered laughter across the room, with Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana joining in with cheerful reactions as they beat the table with uncontrollable laughter.

Nevertheless, with the atmosphere now set for the fourth edition of the tournament, the players are ready to battle it out on the field.

Mumbai Indians Women will be aiming to defend their title, and the opening clash promises to be a blockbuster, with the defending champions taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore Women on January 9 at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai.
