In the third ODI match between India and Australia, one must have seen a glorified victory, but a life-threatening injury to Shreyas Iyer shook the world. After spending several days in the ICU, the Indian middle-order batter is now safe and has been discharged from the hospital.
Being away from the limelight for a while, Team India’s ODI vice-captain made his first public appearance. In Sydney, a glimpse of a fan with Iyer went viral on social media.

After the Champions Trophy, Shreyas Iyer returned to the Men in Blue side in the three-match ODI series against Australia, but this time as Team India’s ODI vice-captain. Fans were eager to see him light up the stage again, but a horrific injury cut his comeback short, leaving the cricket world in shock and forcing him out of action once more.
While attempting a catch of Alex Carey, he injured his lower rib cage, which caused internal bleeding. He was admitted to a hospital in Sydney as the injury was near fatal. After days of treatment and recovery, he has now been discharged, bringing relief to the fans.

Over the years, injury has been the biggest issue for Shreyas Iyer as the middle-order batter has had a long injury history. Although the BCCI confirmed that he has been discharged from the hospital, Iyer is not yet cleared to travel home. He will remain in Sydney for follow-up care and medical consultations until doctors approve his return.
Later this month, Team India will play a three-match ODI series against South Africa. As the reports are saying, he needs atleast a few months to regain match fitness, he is set to miss the series. His participation in the following ODI series against New Zealand also remains uncertain
