After the world enjoyed another edition of the Hundred a few months back, the preparation for the next season has already begun. This time, the tournament is set for a major makeover, promising a whole new experience for the fans.
Ahead of stepping into the new season, Birmingham Phoenix has made a bold move. The franchise has appointed a former New Zealand fast bowler as their new head coach.
Shane Bond takes over the Phoenix helm
Wrapping up another thrilling edition of The Hundred, the franchises have already started planning for the next edition, as the tournament is facing some major overhaul. The Birmingham Phoenix has made a massive move as the appointed Shane Bond as their head coach.
Replacing Daniel Vettori, the former Kiwi pacer, is set to take charge with a two-year deal with the franchise. The new appointment has become a huge boost for the side as Bond’s years-long coaching experience will be a huge boost for the side.
Performance director James Thomas, the key figure behind the bold appointment, expressed full confidence in Shane Bond’s new role with Phoenix. As quoted by ESPNcricinfo, he said, “We're thrilled to appoint Shane as head coach. His elite coaching experience, proven success in global franchise leagues, and passion for player development will be a major asset.”
“Throughout a competitive selection process, his vision, tactical insight, and ability to build high-performing environments really stood out. He understands the demands of modern franchise cricket and what it takes to perform at the highest level,” he added.
Bond embraces his new role with enthusiasm
After a stellar playing career for New Zealand, Shane Bond has built an impressive coaching resume over the years. He served as the Mumbai Indians’ bowling coach from 2015 to 2022 before joining the Rajasthan Royals. Adding to this, he had been he head coach of Sydney Thunder in the BBL and Paarl Royals in the SA 20. As he is set to step into the new role, he is looking forward to embracing every challenge.
“I know what it means to walk out onto the Edgbaston pitch and represent the people in the stands. I want to instil that into our players and create an environment which breeds success… I want my team to play a fearless, exciting brand of cricket which ultimately delivers success for the Birmingham Phoenix,” he said.
The next edition of The Hundred is set for a fresh shake-up, with coaching shifts taking center stage. Former Birmingham Phoenix coach Daniel Vettori is set to take over the newly branded Sunrisers Leeds.
