BCCI issues medical update on Shreyas Iyer

Experienced Indian batter Shreyas Iyer fell awkwardly on the ground after taking a magnificent catch to dismiss Australian batter Alex Carey during India's third ODI against Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground. Soon after he took the backward running catch, Iyer experienced severe discomfort around the abdominal region, which was later revealed to be a rib injury.

Iyer's unfortunate injury not only prevented him from participating in the remainder of the third ODI but also resulted in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding, following which he was rushed to the hospital. Meanwhile, the BCCI, through its official statement, has informed that the Indian batter is recovering well and has been discharged from the hospital.

"Shreyas Iyer is now stable and recovering well. The BCCI Medical Team, along with specialists in Sydney and India, are pleased with his recovery, and he has been discharged from the hospital today. The BCCI extends its heartfelt gratitude to Dr Kouroush Haghigi and his team in Sydney, along with Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala in India, for ensuring Shreyas received the best treatment for his injury. " the BCCI press release read.

However, the BCCI also stated that Iyer has yet to get fitness clearance to fly back to India. So, he will stay in Sydney for follow-up consultations and will return to his homeland once the medical personnel deem him fit to fly.

"Shreyas will continue to stay in Sydney for follow-up consultations and will return to India once he is deemed fit to fly," the board further added.

As per several reports, Shreyas Iyer may take up to two months for complete rehabilitation. As a result, the Mumbai batter could miss India's upcoming ODI series against South Africa and New Zealand on home soil.
