In the third ODI match against Australia, the Indian fans enjoyed a thrilling victory, but Shreyas Iyer's near-fatal injury was the most heartbreaking part of the game. Taking an impressive catch, he injured his ribs and was rushed to the hospital immediately.

Shreyas Iyer shares an update on his road to recovery

In the third ODI of the recently concluded series against Australia, Shreyas Iyer's brilliance turned into heartbreak. In the 34th over of the first innings, he took an outstanding catch of Alex Carey, but was injured in his lower rib cage. Iyer was rushed off the field and later admitted to the ICU, where tests revealed a spleen injury caused by internal bleeding.

Since then, there's been a lot of buzz about his health, but the batter himself finally put the speculation to rest. Now out of danger, Shreyas Iyer took to social media to share a reassuring update on his recovery and extended heartfelt thanks to fans for their support.

“I'm currently in the recovery process and getting better, every passing day. I'm deeply grateful to see all the kind wishes and support I've received - it truly means a lot. Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts,” he wrote.

Iyer’s return to the field may face a delay

Being Shreyas Iyer hasn't been easy, as injuries have repeatedly tested his resilience. Just before the ODI series against Australia, Shreyas Iyer was appointed as Team India’s vice-captain, but the recent injury has become another setback in his journey.

As per the reports, Shreyas Iyer is set to be out of action atleast for two months, and that puts his participation in the upcoming ODI series against South Africa in jeopardy. With another series against New Zealand scheduled for January 2026, his participation there, too, remains uncertain as he continues his road to recovery.
