Cricket fans at The Oval got an unexpected dose of rock ‘n’ roll royalty on Day 1 of the fifth Test between India and England, as none other than Rolling Stones frontman Sir Mick Jagger was spotted in the stands.

The 82-year-old music icon, dressed casually in a black blazer and navy blue shirt, watched intently as India’s openers took on England’s pace attack, proving once again that his love for cricket runs as deep as his legendary music career.

Mick Jagger's Animated Reaction Steals The Spotlight

During the Oval Test on Thursday, cameras panned toward him just as he realised he was being broadcast on the big screen. He made animated gestures to entertain the crowd and then ended with a straight-faced smile to complete his charm.

For those living under a rock, Sir Michael Philip Jagger is the electrifying lead singer of The Rolling Stones, one of the greatest rock bands of all time. With a career spanning over six decades, Jagger has belted out timeless hits like "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction", "Paint It Black", and "Sympathy for the Devil".

Notably, his music records saw sales of over 240 million worldwide. Knighted in 2003 for his contributions to music, Jagger isn’t just a rock god, he’s also one of cricket’s most passionate celebrity fans.

Jagger’s Long-Standing Love Affair with Cricket

This isn’t the first time Jagger has swapped stadium tours for cricket grounds. The rock legend has been a regular at major matches. From the Ashes to World Cups, and even made headlines in 2018 when he pledged £20,000 per century or five-wicket haul during an England-India Test at The Oval to the charity Chance to Shine.

His cricket fandom goes beyond just spectating. Back in 1997, frustrated by the lack of live cricket broadcasts, Jagger’s company Jagged Internetworks partnered with Cricinfo to stream matches online, a revolutionary move at the time. More recently, he was seen at the 2023 Ashes and the 2025 World Test Championship Final, proving his dedication to the sport hasn’t waned with age.
