KL Rahul silenced critics in style during the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Optus Stadium in Perth today (Sunday 24). The under-pressure opener delivered a gritty knock of 77 runs, alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal to set a historic 201-run opening stand. The duo broke the 38-year-old record of 191 runs set by Sunil Gavaskar and Kris Srikkanth at the Sydney Cricket Ground in 1986.

Earlier, KL Rahul's selection in the playing XI faced scrutiny, but he proved himself and showcased resilience and patience in his innings. 

Celebrating KL Rahul's stellar performance, his wife and Bollywood actress Athiya Shetty took to Instagram to praise him. She shared a picture of the cricketer from the Perth ground and captioned it, "The one who never gives up. Never backs down."  

Earlier this month, the couple had shared another joyous announcement, and revealed that the they are expecting their first child in 2025. "Our beautiful blessing is coming soon," they wrote.  Rahul and Athiya’s love story dates back to 2019, when they were introduced by a mutual friend. Their bond grew over the years, and further culminated in an intimate wedding in 2023 at Suniel Shetty’s Khandala farmhouse. 

Indian Batters Shine On Day 3

On Day 3 Indian players have showcased their resilience and taken a commanding position in the Perth Test. Earlier, Yashasvi Jaiswal had dazzled with a brilliant century, complemented by KL Rahul’s vital contributions, setting the stage for Kohli to shine when it mattered most. 

Despite India losing three quick wickets after Kohli's arrival, he remained composed, and accumulated crucial runs and stabilised the innings. At the time of writing, India are at a good position with lead of 449 runs.
