On November 24, 2024, amid a flurry of criticism and pressure, Virat Kohli reached a significant milestone in his Test career during the ongoing first Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test at Optus Stadium in Perth. The former Indian captain became only the fifth Indian batter to score 2000 Test runs against Australia. 

Virat Kohli has now scored a total of 29 centuries and 31 half-centuries in his Test career. His has scored his highest score against Australia in Ahmedabad in March 2023.

Virat Kohli has become the fifth Indian player to score 2000 runs in Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He has joined an elite list that include Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid, and Cheteshwar Pujara.

Indian Batters Dominate On Day 3 

Virat Kohli's remarkable achievement came on the back of an inconsistent performance in the first innings, where he only managed five runs before being dismissed by Josh Hazlewood. However, the 36-year-old showed tremendous resilience in the second innings. 

Despite India losing three quick wickets after his arrival at the crease, Kohli held his ground with composure and scored crucial runs at a steady pace. 

India's second innings was powered by Kohli’s solid approach that further bolstered India's score. Earlier, Yashasvi Jaiswal, showcased his class and completed a brilliant hundred, alongside KL Rahul’s contribution. Their efforts have put India in a commanding position, with a substantial 402-run lead as the team looks to set a challenging target for the Australian side.
