To the delight of cricket fans across the globe, the much-awaited IPL 2025 mega auction will be conducted on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. A total of 576 players will go under the hammer, with ten franchises getting involved in multiple bidding wars to secure their services.

Regarding Chennai Super Kings, the five-time champions retained five players- MS Dhoni, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Matheesha Pathirana, Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja, splitting INR 65 Crores among these cricketers. So, as the auction nears, let's analyse and find out which surprise picks the Super Kings can buy in the marquee event.

Harshal Patel (Base Price- 2 Crore)

Why will CSK target Harshal Patel?

  • MS Dhoni likes multi-dimensional players and Chennai Super Kings have a knack for buying all-rounders in the IPL auction. They have a tendency to have several players who can excel in both batting and bowling department.
  • Harshal Patel's ability to use his cutters and slow balls makes him a valuable asset on M.A. Chidambaram Stadium's surface. The fast bowler was outstanding at this venue in the IPL 2021 season when the first leg of the tournament was conducted in Chennai.
  • Thus, Harshal Patel's all-round brilliance and impressive record in Chennai might prompt CSK to buy him in the mega auction.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar (Base Price- 2 Crore)

Why will CSK target Bhuvneshwar Kumar?

  • Deepak Chahar used to be CSK's prime wicket-taking option in the powerplay phase. However, the right-arm pacer's decline in form and poor fitness forced CSK to release him to the mega auction pool.
  • So, considering Chahar's injury-prone body, CSK might not bring him back and decide to invest a decent amount in Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who can be more effective than the Rajasthan pacer in the first six overs.
  • Bhuvneshwar is a legendary figure in the IPL and can spearhead CSK's bowling unit. The fast bowler can trouble the batters with his swing and sharp death-bowling, making him an asset for the five-time champions.

Will Jacks (Base Price- 2 Crore)

Why will CSK target Will Jacks?

  • Will Jacks is a dynamic English batter, who can capitalise on the field restrictions and torment the opposition with his stroke-play.
  • Apart from allowing Ruturaj Gaikwad to play his natural game, Will Jacks can offer CSK a decent spin-bowling option. The Englishman is a clever operator of the ball and has showcased his all-round attributes for Oval Invincibles in The Hundred.
  • So, considering his hard-hitting ability and spin-bowling skills, CSK might consider buying him, as they generally pick multi-dimensional players in the mega auction.
