The cricket world witnessed a magnificent red-ball game between New Zealand and the West Indies in the last game of the 3-match Test series. The Kiwis ended the series on a high note with an outstanding victory.  Although there were multiple players that shone for New Zealand throughout the series, Jacob Duffy stole the limelight with staggering bowling figures.

Ashwin applauds Duffy’s red-ball brilliance

In the recently ended three-match Test series, West Indies had a nightmare, but New Zealand thrived on their home soil. After the first match ended in a draw, the Kiwis bounced back fiercely and emerged victorious in the next two matches. Amid a flurry of standout performances, Jacob Duffy rose above the rest with displays that truly set him apart.

After taking eight wickets in the first Test, Duffy carried the outstanding form in the next games and ended the series picking up 23 wickets. The cricketing world applauded the ace bowler, and Ravichandran Ashwin was no exception. In his social media handle, he marveled at Duffy’s heroics.

“What a cricketer Jacob Duffy is turning out to be. 2025 has been his coming of age year. 23 wickets at 15.43, 40.3 Strike rate and MOS in the tests against Windies,” he wrote.

Not just the longest format, in the ongoing year, the Kiwi bowler stunned the world with his T20I heroes. Consistent excellence throughout the year has propelled him to the No. 2 spot in the T20I bowling rankings. Ashwin couldn’t stop praising his excellence.

“He’s also the current #2 ranked T20I bowler, with a sensational 2025 in T20s with 57 wickets at 18.9, 7.89 economy, and an elite 53.1% dot ball rate. At 31, he’s operating at peak efficiency,” he added.

Ashwin hails RCB for securing Duffy

Jacon Duffy entered into the IPL 2026 mini auction with a base price of 2 crore, and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru were quick to latch on to him. Securing the in-form Kiwi at his base price turned out to be a shrewd masterstroke by the franchise. After Duffy’s recent heroics, Ashwin hailed RCB’s strategy to pick the quality pacer at such a cheap price.

“Absolute steal by RCB to pick him up at a base price of 2C. Sensational coup,” Ashwin concluded.

After Duffy entered the RCB setup, their pace department got a massive boost. Lining up alongside Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, he forms a fearsome trio capable of turning nights into nightmares for opposition batters.
