Zimbabwe cricket has expressed strong interest in hosting Women's T20 World Cup scheduled to be held in October this year after Jay Shah confirmed that India is not interested to take over the responsibility from Bangladesh.

The marquee event is scheduled to start on October 3 and currently Bangladesh are the designated host of the tournament. However, with political turmoil in Bangladesh, and uncertainty over the stability of the country, ICC is planning to move the tournament to a different country and Zimbabwe along with U.A.E are now considered as the front-runners for taking over the hosting rights.

India denied to host the event because of the monsoon in the country and Sri Lanka also has been ruled out due to the similar weather related issues. India is also hosting Women's ODI World Cup in 2025 and it also played a factor in India's refusal.

Zimbabwe Emerging As Front-Runner For T20 World Cup Hosting Rights

Zimbabwe, on the other hand, has seen some good energetic crowd in recent times and has hosted ODI World Cup Qualifiers in 2018 and 2023. The country is also scheduled to host the 2027 ODI World Cup along with South Africa and Namibia. They are also the co-hosts of the U19 World Cup in 2026, and with weather in October favouring cricket in the African country, Zimbabwe could well get the hosting rights of Women's T20 World Cup 2024.

However, the country will be a neutral host as Zimbabwe Women's team has not qualified for the tournament and if they do get the right, Harare Sports Club and Queen's Sports Club in Bulawayo will be the two venues.
