With the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024 scheduled to start on October 3, concerns have emerged regarding its hosting in Bangladesh due to escalating civil unrest. The tournament is slated to be held across two venues in the country.

In light of recent political turmoil, including a student-led uprising that led to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fleeing the country, there have been questions about the event’s viability in Bangladesh.

India will not host the Women's T20 World Cup 2024: Jay Shah

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has addressed the speculation by confirming that India will not step in as a replacement host if a venue change becomes necessary. Shah clarified that the BCCI had been approached by the ICC to potentially host the tournament.

However, he declined the offer, citing the ongoing monsoon season in India and the country's upcoming hosting of the ODI Women's World Cup next year.

“They had asked the BCCI if they can host the event, but I flatly refused. I do not want to give the impression that I want to host consecutive World Cups,” Shah stated during an interaction at the TOI's Mumbai office.

The ICC is actively monitoring the situation in Bangladesh and is expected to make a decision soon regarding the tournament's venue. Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s cricket team has traveled to Pakistan for a two-match Test series, having arrived early due to disruptions in their practice schedule back home.
