The Australian team has announced the release of Ashes 2025-26 squad members Josh Inglis and Beau Webster days ahead of the New Year's Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). The players are set to return to the Australian Big Bash League for their teams' upcoming fixtures after the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) ended within two days.

Webster will be available for the Hobart Hurricanes in their next match against the Melbourne Renegades on December 29, while Inglis will be back with the Perth Scorchers for their December 30 fixtures against the Sydney Thunder before both of them rejoin the national team for the fifth Ashes Test.

Timely lift for Scorchers and Hurricanes

The Perth-based side will be delighted with this inclusion of Inglis for their upcoming fixture, after they have only managed to win one of their three opening fixtures of the 2025/26 season.

Having won their first match against the Sydney Sixers, with a 114-run chase, they let the Brisbane Heat chase a record total of 258 runs in their next game, followed by Hurricanes' 4 wicket win on the Boxing Day.

On the other hand, Hurricanes have started the season well with 3 wins and a loss in four matches; however, have suffered a massive blow with the latest hamstring injury to Tim David, which will keep him out from the foreseeable future.

Websters inclusion will help them to keep their form intact after wins over Thunder, Renegades and Scorchers so far.

So far, Inglis has played two of the first four Tests for Australia in the Ashes at the Gabba, scoring 23 runs, followed by the Adelaide Test, where he got 32 and 10 in the two innings.

The all-rounder; however, has been unable to get a game under his belt after the inclusion of Marnus Labuschagne in the team.

Cameron Green has been the preferred all-rounder for Australia. But, the lack of runs and wickets from the latter has also opened a slight window for Webster to feature in the Sydney Test.
