Sylhet Titans hosted the Noakhali Express in match 4 of the Bangladesh Premier League on Saturday, December 7, at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, as both teams looked to open their points tally for the 2025/26 season, having lost their first matches each.
As the the epic showdown saw a final-ball thriller, here's a brief look at how things panned out.
Khaled Ahmed's four-fer puts Sylhet in the driver's seat
While bowling first, the 33-year-old left-arm quick Mohammad Amir set the stage on the first ball by dismissing the in-form Maaz Sadaqat for a duck, and his bowling partner Khaled Ahmed backed him up with a double-wicket second over to dismiss Haider Ali and Sabbir Hossain for ducks and reduce Noakhali Express to 9/3.
Captain Shykat Ali and Mahidul Islam Ankon stitched a 32-run partnership, followed by a 66-run stand between Ankon and Jaker Ali to take rescue the team and put 143/7 on the board. Ankon scored 61*(51) with the help of a four and three sixes, while Ahmed got 4/23 (4) and Saim Ayub got 2/52 (4).

In response, Hasan Mahmud also started the second innings with a fiery first spell of 2/9 (2) to get rid of Saim on a duck and Rony Talukdar for 9(7). Zakir Hasan was soon dismissed by Mahedi Hasan Rana for 13(12), before Parvez Hossain Emon and captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz joined for a partnership of 83(65) to and led their team to a strong finish.
During their partnership, Emon reached his second successive fifty of the season before getting his stumps dismantled at 60(41), with 6 fours and two sixes. Mehidy tried to take his team through with a captain's knock but Mahedi Hasan Rana's hattrick in the 18th over pulled the match back.
Just when Sylhet looked down and out, England's Ethan Brookes decided to take matters in his own hands and got a six and a four in the final over and got run-out when they needed 2 runs. Despite his unfortunate run-out, the tail scored 2 off 1, with the help of a wide and clinched their first win. Rana's hattrick helped him finish with 4/34.
