2025 has been a mixed year for Indian fans. It started off with a bang as the Men in Blue lifted the Champions Trophy after 12 years. The year got better when India humiliating Pakistan thrice in a week and claimed the Asia Cup to their name as well.
However, it was a disappointing year in red-ball as the Shubman Gill-led side suffered a whitewash at home against South Africa, resulting in cries for a chance at the coaching level. The year saw several players retire and many make their India debut as well.
Therefore, this article will shed light on the ones who made their debuts for India and also look at how they did in the respective formats.
T20I debutant(s) for India in 2025
1. Harshit Rana
For India, only Harshit Rana made his debut in 2025 in the shortest format of the game. The right-arm seamer has played six T20Is this year and has performed well.
Rana has seven wickets to his name, and he has also earned himself a T20 World Cup 2026 spot scheduled in India and Sri Lanka in early 2026.
Rana has also contributed with the bat and has 48 runs in just two innings, which includes a highest score of 41.
ODIs debutants for India in 2025
The maximum debuts for India in 2025 have been in the fifty-over format. Varun Chakaravarthy, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Harshit Rana, and Nitish Kumar Reddy all earned their India ODI caps this year.
1. Harshit Rana
Rana made his ODI debut on February 5, 2025, against England and tasted success immediately as he lifted the Champions Trophy title a month after his India ODI debut.
Rana has played 11 ODIs for India and has done impressively well. He has 20 wickets to his name and 41 runs with the bat in four innings. Further, Rana is also in contention to be part of India’s 2027 ODI World Cup squad.
2. Yashasvi Jaiswal
Yashasvi Jaiswal also made his ODI debut against England in February. However, he was left out of the team after a solitary game as he fell behind Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma in the pecking order.
Nonetheless, Gill’s injury during the South Africa ODIs allowed Jaiswal to open the innings with Rohit. The southpaw saw success in the final game, where he slammed an unbeaten century.
Overall, Jaiswal has just 171 runs in four innings and continues to be a second-choice opener for India in ODIs.
3. Varun Chakaravarthy
2025 has been a rewarding year for Varun Chakaravarthy. The right-arm spinner made a formidable duo with Kuldeep Yadav and made his ODI debut in the England series as well. The KKR star has played just 4 ODIs and has 10 wickets to his name.
Similar to Harshit, Varun is also a strong contender to be on the team bus for the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa.
4. Nitish Kumar Reddy
Nitish Kumar Reddy is the latest debutant for India in ODIs as the star all-rounder made his first appearance in ODIs for India against Australia in the recently concluded tour. The 22-year-old played just two matches, but failed to create an impact.
Reddy amassed just 27 runs with the bat and is yet to pick up a wicket in the fifty-over format. He was a replacement of Hardik Pandya and is unlikely to be presented with chances in the near future.
Test debutants for India in 2025
In the red-ball format, there were just two debutants for India - Anshul Kamboj and Sai Sudharsan.
1. Sai Sudharsan
Sai made his Test debut in the first of the five-match Test series against England away from home. In 2025, Sai has featured in six Tests, but has failed to replicate his IPL-like heroics.
Sai has just 302 runs in 11 innings, averaging only 27. 45. He is yet to score a century and only has two fifties. Therefore, the southpaw fears falling out of the scheme of things in the near future.
2. Anshul Kamboj
To manage Jasprit Bumrah’s workload management, India roped in Anshul Kamboj for the 4th Test. However, the right-arm seamer played just a solitary game and faced heavy criticism for his performance.
Kamboj lacked pace and the killer instinct required from a seamer. Eventually, he took just 1 wicket and registered the figures of 1/89 in his spell.
