The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a special three-team Challenge Cup as part of the preparation for the national women’s cricket team ahead of the ICC Women’s World Cup. The tournament will be held from August 18 to 28 at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP).

Unlike other teams preparing for the 2025 Wome's World Cup, the Bangladesh women’s team hasn’t played any international matches since April’s qualifier tournament

In contrast, other teams like England, South Africa, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka have had international matches recently.

Bangladesh Women Take Weird Route For World Cup Preparation

With no bilateral series on the card, BCB has now taken a unique route to ensure Bangladesh women get the necessary practice. According to Daily Star, this Challenge Cup will feature two women’s teams made up of national players and other potential talents, along with the national U-15 men’s team.

All three teams will play each other in a round-robin format. The aim is to give the Tigresses quality match practice before the World Cup, which will take place in India from September 30 to November 2.

This isn’t the first time the women’s team will play against boys’ teams as part of their preparation. Last year, they played practice matches against the men’s U-19 team before the Women’s Asia Cup. These matches help improve the women’s team’s skills and confidence, especially in facing faster bowling and tighter fielding.

Currently, 18 players are training at a camp in Sylhet, which ends on July 29. Another camp will be held at BKSP from August 6 to 15.

Tigresses Will Play Warm-Up Games

Bangladesh will play two warm-up matches ahead of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025. On September 25, they face Sri Lanka ‘A’ at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Their second match is on September 27 against Sri Lanka at the Colombo Cricket Club Ground. These games will be crucial for the Tigresses as they prepare for the main tournament starting on September 30.
