Bangladesh Women complain of lack of preparation for World Cup [Source: @BCBtigers/X.com]
With only 110 days left before the ICC Women’s World Cup begins in India and Sri Lanka, the Bangladesh women’s cricket team are yet to play any international matches as part of their preparation. While other countries are busy with series and training tours, Bangladesh is only holding skill and fitness camps at home.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has failed to arrange any warm-up matches with other countries, reportedly due to late communication. A two-week skill camp in Mirpur is set to begin on June 13, but that alone may not be enough.
Bangladesh Players Worried Over Lack Of Preparation
This lack of match practice has raised serious concerns among players and experts. Bangladesh Women’s vice-captain Nahida Akter, talking to Daily Star, admitted that without proper preparation, it’s difficult to perform well.
"Whatever work you do, if your preparation isn't up to the mark, you won't get the expected result. All the teams are currently playing, and we also want to play matches. But as all the teams are currently busy, I think that's why the board is finding it hard to arrange international matches before the World Cup," Akter told Daily Star.
Currently, the team is coached by Sarwar Imran, with a small support staff. BCB women’s wing chairman Nazmul Abedeen Fahim said they are trying to arrange matches against other teams’ B-sides, but nothing has been confirmed.
"Arranging international matches was important as it could give a similar vibe as part of World Cup preparation. We are still trying to arrange something differently, like playing against a top team's B side. But nothing is confirmed yet," Fahim said.
Women’s World Cup To Begin In September
The ICC Women’s 50-over World Cup 2025 will be played from September 30 to November 2 across India and Sri Lanka, with Colombo added as a neutral venue due to Pakistan's refusal to tour India.
Matches will be held in Bengaluru, Guwahati, Indore, Visakhapatnam, and Colombo. India will open the tournament in Bengaluru. 8 teams, including debutants Pakistan and Bangladesh, will compete, with the final set for November 2.
