Superstar Rishabh Pant continues to dazzle in the ongoing Test series vs England, as the maverick batter breached yet another record in Test cricket, and became the first-ever keeper-batter to attain a unique milestone. In the first innings of the Manchester Test match, Pant scripted history and became the first visiting keeper to score 1,000 Test runs in England.
He also became the sixth Indian batter to attain 1,000 Test runs in England, a feat he achieved with his 19th run of the day. For starters, no other visiting keeper in Test history has 800 runs in England, while Pant breached the 1000 mark. The next best is former India captain, MS Dhoni, who had 778 runs in England.
Pant joins Tendulkar, Dravid in huge Test feat
As stated before, he joined an elite list of Indian players with 1,000 runs in England. The elusive club includes Sachin Tendulkar (1575), Rahul Dravid (1376), Sunil Gavaskar (1152), Virat Kohli (1096), and KL Rahul (1035). He completed the landmark in his 14th match, as he now averages 42 in England.
Records shattered by Pant in ongoing series
In this Test series against England, Pant has broken numerous Test records, which earlier belonged to MS Dhoni.
He became the Indian keeper with most Test centuries - 8. He is the only wicket-keeper to hammer multiple Test centuries in England (4), and in the Headingley Test match, he became only the second keeper after Andy Flower to slam two Test tons in the same game.
Pant has 4 Test centuries in England, which is the joint-second most Test tons in England. He sits alongside Tendulkar, KL Rahul, and Dilip Vengsarkar at the second spot, with Dravid occupying the top slot (6 Test tons). He will be eager to continue his hot streak as the batter will hope to score truckloads of runs for India in the first innings.
