Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan had the perfect front-row seat during the fifth T20I between India and England held at the iconic Wankhede Stadium earlier this year. But it wasn’t the actor making headlines; it was cricketer Abhishek Sharma, who delivered a sensational century.

On February 2, 2025, Abhishek Sharma went berserk and produced a staggering knock of 135 runs off only 54 balls to illuminate the full-house stadium.

His innings included seven fours and a staggering 13 sixes, all at a strike rate of 250, leaving fans in awe and the England bowlers in dismay. The 24-year-old was rightfully named Player of the Match as India cruised to a 150-run victory.

Abhishek Bachchan Reveals Being Mesmerised by Abhishek Sharma

Watching alongside his legendary father, Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek recalled the electrifying evening when the young Indian opener smashed a sensational century.

Talking to BBC Sport, the junior Bachchan jokingly said that the better ‘Abhishek’ got all the credit that night.

"My dad and I were there at Wankhede when Abhishek scored the hundred. The better Abhishek on the day got all the accolades. My first reaction was are they going to sit through the whole thing. But then when you go see modern-day cricket, it has evolved and become such an exciting watch. I was reassured when I went to the India-England T20 in Wankhede. The energy is crazy. You're going to wake up a huge segment to watch the Olympics. Just getting the Indian subcontinent. The viewership will be insane," Bachchan said.

Bachchan also reflected on how the experience reignited his appreciation for the modern game. The actor believes the sport’s evolution is perfectly timed with its inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Abhishek Sharma has been one of the most explosive openers from India’s upcoming generation. In 17 T20Is, he already has 2 centuries and 535 runs.

Sharma Eyes A Place In 2026 T20 World Cup

Young Indian batter Abhishek Sharma has expressed his dream of opening the innings for India in the 2026 T20 World Cup, which will be held at home. After his explosive century against England, the 24-year-old told Hindustan Times that playing a World Cup at home is every kid’s dream.

"Playing a World Cup at home, and possibly opening for India, is every kid’s dream. But I know it is a long road, and I need to keep performing… I want to be at my best when that time comes."

He knows it’s a long road and must keep performing to get a place. With fierce competition for top-order spots, he remains determined to stay ready for the big stage and hopes to deliver when the opportunity finally comes his way.
