When the Indian white-ball squad for the Sri Lanka series was announced a couple of days ago, there were hardly any surprises, barring one.

Key all-rounder for India, Ravindra Jadeja was dropped from the ODI squad, and speculations began that this could be the end of the road for Jadeja in the ODIs.

Why Was Jadeja Dropped Form ODI Squad For SL Tour? Agarkar answer

Jadeja, was part of the Indian squad for the World Cup 2023, and since then hasn't played any ODI cricket. Team India also has Axar Patel, who is of similar profile to Jadeja, and BCCI are grooming him to be the long-term successor to Jadeja.

Ahead of the Sri Lanka tour, chief selector, Ajit Agarkar and new head coach, Gautam Gambhir had a press conference, wherein Agarkar clarified that the 35-year-old cricketer wasn't dropped from the squad, but was given a break, considering the hectic schedule that awaits the Indian team.

"There was no point in picking both Axar and Jadeja. One would have benched anyways. Jadeja is not dropped. A long Test season is coming".

The Indian team are set to play Bangladesh in a two-match Test series after the SL tour. Following which, they will play Test matches Vs New Zealand, and the all-important Border-Gavaskar series Vs Australia Down Under.

As a result, the team management is making sure their premium spinner gets the rest he deserves.
