It has been almost 10 days since Gautam Gambhir was appointed as the head coach of the Indian team. However, till date, there hasn't been any press conference to introduce the new coach to the Indian cricket fans.

But as per reports by Times of India, BCCI will formally unveil Gambhir as the head coach on July 22, the day Team India depart for Sri Lanka for a white-ball series. It is widely expected that Gambhir will answer the questions related to the team selection, following which, they will depart for the Island Nation.

Gambhir became the head coach following the departure of Rahul Dravid, who guided India to the T20 World Cup win. Dravid's tenure with the Indian team ended after the World Cup in 2023, but his tenure was extended for 6 months.

The two main candidates for the head coach position were Gambhir and WV Raman, but Gambhir's experience of playing alongside senior players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma worked for him. Moreover, he has a stellar record as a mentor for IPL teams (LSG and KKR).

He guided LSG to consecutive playoffs position in 2022, 2023, and mentored KKR to a title winning campaign in 2024.
